About:Michael-Towne Wines & Spirits is a Brooklyn Institution situated in the historic Hotel St. George. Michael-Towne Wine & Spirits was originally established in 1934. After the repeal of Prohibition . Towne Wines & Spirits became the 65th store to obtain a license to operate in New York State . In 2001 Towne Wine & Spirits combined with Michaels Wines et. al also of Brooklyn Heights . We have thus been serving the Brooklyn Brownstone Community ( Brooklyn Heights , Park Slope, Boreum Hill, Carroll Gardens ) for nearly 75 years.  The Management Team at Michael-Towne (including, Michael Correra, Jerry Willen, Richard Landy and family) has combined over 100 years in the Wine & Spirits Industry

We maintain an extensive inventory of domestic and international product. From California to Oregon , Long Island and the Finger Lakes in New York to Australia , New Zealand , South Africa , Italy , Germany and France , we carry a selection of wines, including Organic and Kosher Wine, to suit nearly every palate and price point. And if for some reason we do not have what you are looking for, ask and we can either order it for you or take your request under consideration to add to our stock. We are dedicated to our customer base. In addition to hosting weekly wine tastings for our customers, we also regularly evaluate the market, strategically seek opportunities to expand and/or upgrade the collection. Michael-Towne Wine & Spirits is not a static institution but very much a perpetual work in progress, evolving with the times, the market and staying on top of the industry so that we may continue to serve our customers. From the management down to the staff, we are dedicated to constant improvement in service, product and appearance. We welcome your business but more importantly we will not ever take it for granted.

Michael-Towne Wine & Spirits resides in a prime Brooklyn Heights location in what many would consider a landmark building, We recognize that good taste and not just legal/zoning requirements necessitate that our windows to the community at large must be more than an advertisement for our inventory. The art work on display is a reflection of the community and the local artists who make Brooklyn Heights their home. Thus, Michael Towne maintains the external space in a classic fashion while keeping the interior technologically modernized and efficient.

BROOKLYN HEIGHTS

Did Cartier-Bresson Start This Way?

Under the red neon sign of the old St. George Hotel in Brooklyn Heights , the display window of Michael-Towne Wines and Spirits holds a California chardonnay, a Clarksburg syrah and a Long Island merlot. Most distinctive, though, is the Nepalese photography…….. At the store, Chris London, an employee, said the exhibit's success didn't surprise him in the least. "I'm surprised that more artists haven't wanted to have their work on display," he said. "I mean, it's not a museum or an art gallery, but I would venture a guess that more people in the community would see it here." more

LONDON NETWORK REVIEW

Proving that more than A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, Michael-Towne succeeds as being far more than a mere wine or liquor store. Of course as you would expect there is an extensive selection of the world’s best wines, including some rare and hard to find vintages but they also have a great selection of old standby’s.  Michael-Towne is located in the historic Hotel St. George, a classic space that while technologically modernized also meshes in well with the classic flavor of Brooklyn Heights. The work of local artists is on display. Filling the air is  the music of Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Sara Brightman, Billie Holiday, Dean Martin, the soundtrack from Moonstruck, select Jazz as well as The Beatles

It is a neighborhood pillar that has a Cheers Bar like vibe and a knowledgeable staff committed to customer service; friendly and helpful without being overbearing and making the consumer uncomfortable. These folks actually have fun meeting your needs and sharing in your love for and the pleasure of wine.  The weekly Wine Tasting's every Thursday, Friday & Saturday between 5-8 pm are well attended by locals.--Chris London, Esq. Founder, London Network, NYC
